When you need roadside assistance it’shandy to know what type of recovery truck will be coming to your aid! There are four main varieties that can relocate your vehicle to another location, but they all operate in different ways. Want to know your tow truck types? Read on…

Flatbed Tow Trucks

The flatbed is the most widely used towing vehicle in the world! The long bed with the flat top when hydraulically moved allows easy access for vehicles to be driven straight on. The truck is suitable for transporting vehicles stranded at the roadside or involved in an accident and can be used to safely tow boats. The flatbed is also known as a rollback truck due to the ability of the base to roll at a downward angle making it easier to load and unload.

Integrated Tow Trucks

These specialised trucks are used for heavy-duty transportation of buses and other rigs. Extra axles provide stability and additional strength and the arms are embedded deep into the core of the vehicle to keep it secure.

Hook and Chain Tow Trucks

This towing vehicle is used mainly to transport wrecked cars to scrap yards as the wrapped chain can damage or scratch paintwork, and damage can be caused to the drive on 4x4 models. These trucks were widely used in the past, but are no longer a popular option for everyday problems due to the series of chains that need to be hooked around the axles and frames.

Wheel-Lift Tow Trucks

These were introduced as a substitute for the hook and chain, and use a metal yoke placed under the car’s wheels alongside a hydraulic system that lifts the back end of the vehicle for towing. Front wheel drive vehicles are pulled by their entrance wheels, and less damage is caused with this relatively inexpensive towing option.
